Joey & Jon: The Walled Gardens, Cowdray

We look forward to all the weddings we have, and Joey and Jon’s was no exception. In fact, because we had only shot their pre-wedding shoot less than 3 weeks earlier, their plans were still fresh in our minds and we were eager to see them manifest into reality. Throw into the mix a large Antipodean contingent (Jon is Australian) we just knew it was going to be a perfect day. And it was. But what we didn’t expect was how much it would exceed even our highest expectations.

It still amazes me how this gorgeous bride not only looks stunning, but is also the main creator of all the magical details at the venue; although I guess I knew the moment we received the invitation this day was going to be anything but ordinary.

Joey and Jon’s ceremony was so intimate and personal, both Cam and I were incredibly moved. Everything, from the officiant to the readings, from the music to the prayers, were all conducted by people who clearly have an immense love and respect for the couple, and this was echoed all around by the congregation. It really was beautiful in the deepest sense of the word.

And then I saw the reception. Wow.
Joey had a very clear idea of what she wanted and had spent many, many, many hours painting and putting together the little details which transformed the room into a wild treasure garden. Each table was named after a special location and memory Jon and her have shared, and each guest had a little picture marking where they sat. In the weeks leading up to the big day, Joey had spent her days painting the table cloths that adorned the middle of the tables, and the wildflowers in tall green wine bottles mixed amongst candle lanterns was just perfect.

We managed to sneak the couple away to the nearby ruins for some intimate portraits before the wedding breakfast, and I am still blown away not just by their beauty, but by the transparency and openness of their love for each other. It’s really quite something else.

We were lucky enough to be invited to join Joey and Jon’s family and friends for the wedding breakfast, and this is just a further testament to the generosity of this couple and their families. In fact Joey’s dad even quoted a line from our blog in his speech. Now that really did make me well up!

After the delicious meal and funny yet heart warming speeches Cam and I spotted the most gorgeous sunset, and managed to sneak the couple off for a few more impromptu portraits. Seriously I could shoot these guys all day, they are just so natural and the camera is totally in love with them.

Joey and Jon, we don’t feel any image or words can actually ever do justice to the real beauty of your day, but we feel so utterly privileged to have been able to share it with you and your wonderful family and friends. The love between you is divine, and thank you for choosing us to capture a slice of it for you.
