Lucy & Alex: Beloved pre-wedding shoot

Lucy is a vet. I loved her from the moment she told me that.
When I met her, and saw her cute outfit, I loved her even more.
Not only does she save and care for animals, but Lucy journals too.
She met Alex when they were at school together, and she has their whole love story told through the pages of her diary. I adore that.
Oh, and she’s baking her own wedding cake.

Yes, it’s fair to say, I think she’s pretty awesome.
(And clearly Alex is pretty cool too, otherwise they wouldn’t be together!)

Eliza - Aww Pen, they’re adorable! And I love the processing, the warmth of the colours is gorgeous.

Chinese New Year

Sometimes it’s not possible to capture true emotion retrospectively without being affected by all the days and stories that have passed in between. Sometimes all you can offer are the facts.

And that’s okay.

I love this picture of my Mum and me, but I don’t recall much about this day – except for the noise.
A mixture of fire crackers and laughter.
Lots of it.

Grab the ones you love today, and let them know how grateful you are for having them in your life.
Happy Chinese New Year.

What’s the story?

A picture may paint a thousand words, but what stories do they tell?

If you came across this picture of us in an album, what would it tell you?
That we look happy?
On a boat?

What if you knew the picture came from the album called “Port Macquarie, Australia” would that give you a bit more information?
Maybe we’re on holiday? I look quite tanned.

If I were sitting next to you, I would tell you this was my first time ever fishing, and I even caught a fish (in fact I think this is why we took the picture, except you can’t actually see the fish!) I would probably also tell you that we had just moved to Australia for a New Life Down Under, and the whole experience was… well, depending on when we were talking, a dream-come-true or a nightmare! In fact, looking at this picture now conjures up many stories I could tell retrospectively, and I’m secretly hoping if I trawl through my journals, I might even find something I wrote from that time; how interesting it would be to remember our story from a different perspective.

And so it begins. The start of two personal projects I hope to complete this year: to document our time in Australia, and separately, the journey we took across Russia and China to get there. I am excited, because I have managed to retrieve the travel logs Cam and I wrote during the journey there which I hope to match up with the appropriate images; and although the stories of our time in Australia will be a little more difficult to extrapolate from all my journal entries, I know the end result will be worth it.

What stories in your life are you documenting at the moment?

Jo - I can’t wait to read (or hear??) these stories. I feel as if I hardly saw you over last weekend. I am Pen-deficient. x

jeanine - i LOVE this post and this idea. i would like to document my journey with Joe. i have everything i need on my blog but i want it in book format, you know? something that will allow me to turn the pages from past to present. and i have about a month to do it so best get started.

Ingrid - The last few days I have been doing nothing much of anything, can’t even read a book for more than a couple of pages, thank you for the post. I’m now thinking about all the good things that are going on, and what I can do to celebrate them. Hope to see you both this year, Love Ingrid

megg - I can’t wait to hear your stories! This has fired up my thinking – what stories do I want to catch? Hmmmm…..

Emma & Julien: Cheyne Walk Brasserie London Wedding

A handsome Frenchman marrying his English rose.
From Emma’s stunning Jim Hjelm dress and veil, to Julien’s smiling skull tie and red boutonniere, I truly adored every detail of their day. But most of all, I loved the way Julien looked at Emma. I loved the way he spoke about her in his speech, and I loved the total and utter delight they both shared in marrying each other.
That made the day perfect.

You can see more images and Emma’s details on Love My Dress here.
